“Extraordinary.”—Emily Giffin

He was the first person to inspire her, to move her, to truly understand her. Was he meant to be the last?

Lucy is faced with a life-altering choice. But before she can make her decision, she must start her story—their story—at the very beginning.

Lucy and Gabe meet as seniors at Columbia University on a day that changes both of their lives forever. Together, they decide they want their lives to mean something, to matter. When they meet again a year later, it seems fated—perhaps they'll find life's meaning in each other. But then Gabe becomes a photojournalist assigned to the Middle East and Lucy pursues a career in New York. What follows is a thirteen-year journey of dreams, desires, jealousies, betrayals, and, ultimately, of love. Was it fate that brought them together? Is it choice that has kept them away? Their journey takes Lucy and Gabe continents apart, but never out of each other's hearts.

This devastatingly romantic debut novel about the enduring power of first love, with a shocking, unforgettable ending, is Love Story for a new generation.

“It's the epic love story of 2017.”—Redbook

Overcome. I loved the quotes. This book will be a movie at some point in time, I have no doubt. Gabriel reminds me of my son, gone too soon. All the stars in heaven shine brighter...because he is there. Love story unequaled.

Well written, all-consuming love story. Didn’t want to put it down. Days after finishing it, I still find myself thinking about the characters and challenges they faced.

I don’t know why the main character has such an obsession with this guy. He was a jerk. I don’t understand it at all. Finishing this book was incredibly difficult. I kept waiting for it to get good but it never did.

I was very much looking forward to reading this book after seeing it recommended by The Skimm. What I thought and read ahead of time was that it was such a relatable story, but really that's a stretch. The situations, ESPECIALLY the ending, are all highly dramatized and I believe not relatable at all to, I would guess, 95% of the readers. The plot builds positively and the reader is drawn to keep reading until it spirals out of control in seconds where you are left thinking "what just happened." The writing is great and I really couldn't put it down, but the ending really disappointed me and put a negative feeling on the whole experience.

I really wasn't able to root for Lucy or Gabe - they both irritated me with their complete self-absorption. Because of this I didn't have an emotional attachment to either and found myself not caring what happened to either of them as the story went on. The book was well written and a quick read but the selfishness of these characters made it hard to connect to the story.
